Magazine Genre Codes and Conventions #1 (Cover)
The magazine that I am creating will be focusing on the prospects of various strategies and approaches to creating a self-sustaining system of making money- on the grounds of entrepreneurship. The reason for why I am pushing to create this magazine is because there are numerous ways an individual can make money that is not taught about or mentioned throughout an individual’s life i.e. investing in various markets, and the act of creating a business. Because my magazine will delve into the genre of Business, economics, and entrepreneurship, I will be focusing on the Magazine called Entrepreneur.
Each of the three issues I will be analyzing has a serif font for their mastheads that establishes the sense of sophistication and etiquette, traits that entrepreneurs are stereotyped to have. Above each of the mastheads, there are captions, which have buzzwords that are bolded, that entice the magazine’s target audience (white upper-middle class men). These words such as work “fewer hours, make more money” cause readers to pick up the magazine and buy it since many individuals would rather work less while obtaining more income. Each of the issues has the main image, which represents a successful entrepreneur. Behind each person there is a background color usually black or a black and white gradient behind the individual to cause readers to see who the magazine will be focusing on; however, behind Michel et Augustin the background is a clear day in Paris- making their audience believe if they had more money and time they would travel there. The main cover line on the three issues are different since the issues are going to be talking about other things; however, this is only true because of the issue with Michel et Augustin, which will be delving into the ideology of international business and investing. On the other two issues the main cover line is directed towards the individuals that is in the front cover, hence Elon Musk and Kevin Heart two wealthy entrepreneurs.
While designing my magazine I will keep in mind of the cover since, for the most part, the cover image should represent what the magazine will be focusing on in depth. Also, since I personally like fonts that have serifs I might use this type of font for my magazine. Also, I should consider the color in the background of the image since the background color can influence an individual to either buy the magazine or not. Furthermore, I should consider my cover picture and the cover line’s design. Since this particular magazine has their main cover line on the left of the cover with multiple fonts, colors, and sizes this has given some ideas for my magazine.
